Email security, a significant security problem in 2023

Enterprise Engineering Solutions notes that email has been a significant security problem in 2023 as online communication has become increasingly necessary for individuals and enterprises. The cloud solutions provider considers email as the weakest link, citing that 90% of cyberattacks start through it.

Email security risks

Some email security risks include spoofing or phishing, domain squatting, spreading dangerous files, email bombing and, malware.

To boost email security, individuals and enterprises are urged to strengthen their passwords, by using more than 12 characters with a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. Connecting to reliable Wi-Fi and leveraging 2-factor authentication can also decrease the likelihood of email risks, as well as installing anti-virus software and not clicking on suspicious links.

At the end of the day, cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility, as Rene Ventura, an IT and cybersecurity professional, reminds in his article on LinkedIn.

We often say that people are our weakest link, but they are also our strongest defense. Encouraging a security-first culture should be on everyone’s priority list.
