Equinix, Inc. announced a new facility in Singapore named SG6, the company’s sixth International Business Exchange in the country.
Sustainability innovations
SG6 claims to employ sustainability innovations, including the adoption of a renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA) in Singapore with Sembcorp Industries, using lower-carbon building materials, energy-efficient water-cooled chillers and cooling towers, and rainwater harvesting capabilities.
Equinix will offer liquid cooling technology in the facility, which can ensure effective cooling for high-power applications and support compute-intensive workloads, including AI.
Equinix also collaborated with the College of Design and Engineering at the National University of Singapore to assess various types of alternative power supplies and their reliability, cost, operating conditions, and environmental impact.
It also partnered with IMDA and Dell Technologies to propel sustainable digital infrastructure modernisation. The partnership aims to optimise the integration and utilization of hardware and software interfaces.
Equinix claims that its data centres in Singapore have achieved 100% renewables coverage since 2020.
Yee May Leong, managing director of Equinix Singapore, said, “By integrating the latest sustainability innovations, our new AI-ready data centre enables businesses to establish their digital infrastructure responsibly and sustainably. We have always been a strong proponent of Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and Smart Nation journeys and are grateful for the support from the government and our industry partners.”
The facility, which has an initial investment of $260 million, is expected to open in Q1 2027 and, when fully built, provide 20MW.
