The Broadband Forum pioneered new industry standards to help service providers improve the quality of network services delivered to customers by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Automated Intelligence Management

The Automated Intelligence Management (AIM) framework leverages AI, Machine Learning (ML), and automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce OpEx

“AIM promises to unlock new revenue streams and save costs for service providers that have had to increase CapEx to scale their networks,” said Bruno CornagliaBroadband Forum’s SDN/NFV work area director.

Use cases

The AIM framework can monitor and troubleshoot home Wi-Fi networks by automatically detecting unmet service levels and generating recommendations and reconfigurations to fix them.

Network probes are the foundation of the AIM system. They can identify network performance between subscriber premises and any point in the network. When congestion happens, it can determine the optimal network path for service flow while maintaining user experience.

“The new specifications deliver an entire framework to empower network capabilities via AI/ML-based recommendations. The AIM pipeline components can be implemented as virtualized functions in a cloud-native environment, allowing a high degree of reusability per modern DevOps and GitOps paradigms, as well as flexible and seamless deployments,” said Mauro Tilocca, Broadband Forum’s chair of the Service Provider Action Council.
