A new IDC InfoBrief reveals that 68% of APAC enterprises are turning to low-code, integrated development environments (IDEs) and DevOps to address challenges from outdated frameworks and low developer productivity.
According to the report "Mission-Critical Software, Delivered: Harnessing the Synergy of Low Code and GenAI," sponsored by OutSystems, 25% of APAC enterprises are now prioritising the integration of generative AI (GenAI) into developer tools to drive more intelligent application development.
Mark Weaser, vice president of APAC at OutSystems, expressed, "We are witnessing unprecedented levels of productivity and innovation unlocked for businesses in APAC through the synergistic relationship between GenAI and low code." He further added, "In today's competitive landscape, OutSystems is proud to remain committed to empowering APAC enterprises to deliver mission-critical applications at scale and overcome challenges such as talent shortages and evolving market demands."
Intelligent app development
By 2026, IDC projects that 40% of net-new applications in APAC will be "intelligent apps". GenAI-powered applications are expected to increase productivity (61%), provide high-value dev tasks/creativity (50%), and accelerate developer velocity (40%) in software development and design.
Here to stay
Low-code adoption is not just a passing trend in APAC. Around 33% of enterprises in the region recognise it as a critical tool for driving automation and future-proofing their businesses. Predictions from IDC further reinforce this, revealing that over 60% of enterprises globally will adopt low-code technologies by 2025.
Almost half (49%) of enterprises in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong prioritise low code for automation solutions, followed by India (35%) and Australia (31%).
