“AI is creating significant opportunities for organisations across APJ, and many are now moving beyond experimentation into broader operational use,” said Stephanie Barnett, vice president, Presales, Asia Pacific and Japan at Okta.

“What we’re seeing across the region is a growing focus on visibility, trust and understanding how AI systems are interacting with business applications, workflows and data,” she added.

Visibility and oversight

The research found that 89% of executives globally are confident they have visibility into AI usage across their organisation, while 52% of employees report using AI tools without explicit approval from IT or security teams.

The research found that 58% of organisations reported an AI-related security incident or close call in the past 12 months.

Japan logged the highest level of AI security concern globally, with 64% worried about security and privacy implications.

“As AI adoption accelerates, organisations need stronger visibility and governance across both human and non-human identities. Identity is becoming increasingly important to how organisations maintain trust and control as AI becomes more embedded into everyday business operations,” Barnett said.
