Highstar has launched its full-chain battery cell solution for artificial intelligence data centres (AIDCs), which spans three critical power layers: grey-space UPS and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, white-space battery backup units (BBUs), and grid-side energy storage.
Full-chain battery cell portfolio for AI data centres
Highstar showcased its comprehensive energy storage portfolio for AI data centres, offering battery solutions that span the entire power chain, from rack-level backup to grid-side energy storage.
For grey-space applications, the company introduced its 85Ah high-rate lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells for UPS and HVDC systems. It claims to deliver rapid power output, reliable backup, thermal stability, and long service life. Moreover, 50Ah sodium-ion cells are designed to perform across extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to 80°C.
For white-space battery backup units (BBUs), Highstar offers tabless cylindrical cells in 18650 and 21700 formats using both LFP and high-nickel NMC chemistries. These cells are engineered for high instantaneous power and low internal resistance. It also claims to deliver improved thermal performance, enhanced safety, and flexible deployment across different rack and cost requirements.
Additionally, Highstar’s grid-side system uses 314Ah lithium-ion and 160Ah sodium-ion cells to support long-duration energy storage, extended cycle life, and rapid power response. Combining lithium-ion and sodium-ion chemistries with prismatic and cylindrical platforms, the company integrates cathode, anode, electrolyte and separator development with structural approaches such as tabless current collection, precision pressure relief, and directional venting.
