iQIYI: AI is powerful in content production, but human values still irreplaceable

China-based online entertainment platform iQIYI is integrating AI into its content through initiatives designed to inspire collaboration and innovation.

Over 2,600 creators from over 30 countries and regions converged on the “Beyond Tools, Toward Teammates” AI Short Film Creation Competition and the Peter Pau × iQIYI AI Theatre” Storytelling Lab to explore and shape storytelling in the AI era.

Youxue CHEN, first-prize Winner of “Beyond Tools, Toward Teammates” AI Short Film Creation Competition, said: “For me, the value of AI isn’t just about efficiency or lowering costs, it’s making the impossible tangible.”

Shaping storytelling in the AI era

The “Beyond Tools, Toward Teammates” AI Short Film Creation Competition has partnered with industry leaders like Google and ByteDance’s Volcano Engine to incorporateAI into filmmaking processes.

Meanwhile, the “Peter Pau × iQIYI AI Theatre” Storytelling Lab aims to develop the skills of professional filmmakers by focusing on AI-powered production techniques.  

iQIYI emphasizes that while AI is a powerful tool in content production, it is designed to support and enhance human creativity, reinforcing the value of human ingenuity in the industry.

“The real challenge wasn’t showcasing AI’s spectacle, but moving the audience. With this work, we found a reliablecreative method, and that’s just the beginning. We stand at the threshold of a new era, where imagination knows no limits,” Chen added.
