IT and security leaders see the advantages of moving away from traditional, on-premises platforms according to Keeper Security’s Insight Report: Cloud-Based Privileged Access Management

The majority (82%) of IT leaders believe in the benefits of moving their on-premises Privileged Access Management (PAM) solution to the cloud.

Only 36% of IT leaders believe in keeping on-premises PAM solutions in the current economic climate.

Legacy on-prem PAM solutions

A recent research from Keeper revealed that more than half (56%) of IT leaders were not able to fully implement a PAM solution because of complexity concerns (92%).

“The complexity and high cost of legacy on-prem PAM solutions create challenges for today’s IT and security professionals,” said Craig Lurey, CTO and co-founder of Keeper Security. “Yet, securing privileged access to accounts that protect sensitive systems and data is critical. The shift toward cloud-based solutions, that are easier to deploy, provides more efficient and seamless cybersecurity coverage with better security outcomes.”

The top three benefits respondents seek in a PAM solution include protection against privileged credentials by external threat actors (58%), management and monitoring of privileged user access (58%), and prevention of data breaches (48%).

Other benefits include an update of privileged user access and prevention of “privilege creep” (46%), protection against accidental or deliberate misuse of privileged access by company insiders (47%), an increase of visibility and awareness (43%), and prevention of phishing attacks (35%).
