Manhattan Associates Inc. has introduced Sightline, a new capability within ActivePlanning, to reveal the reasoning behind AI-driven forecasts, recommendations, and inventory decisions in plain business language.

Sightline claims to provide explainability for planning outcomes by revealing the reasons behind forecasts, orders, and inventory projections directly within the application. It also offers detailed visibility into planning factors, enabling users to analyse factors such as forecast inputs, safety stock decisions, vendor minimum order requirements, lead times, and more.
Sightline also eliminates the need for external analysis tools because planners no longer have to export data to third-party analytics tools to investigate planning decisions. Instead, it enablesreal-time, in-application analysis to facilitate investigations in seconds.
The company claims that the solution improves transparency in AI-driven planning. It addresses the “black box” problem of AI by explaining AI-generated forecast adjustments, replenishment recommendations, and inventory allocation decisions without requiring technical expertise.
Additionally, workspaces can be customised based on user roles, promotions, and planning activities. Configurable views are available across forecasts, order projections, and planned inventory levels.
Manhattan Associates claims that Sightline establishes a new approach where users can investigate planning outcomes within the same system where decisions are made.
