OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Work, a new AI agent designed to complete complex workplace tasks by connecting with users’ business applications, files and workflows, turning the AI chatbot into a workplace AI agent.
In an announcement, OpenAI said that the new capability enables ChatGPT to independently execute multi-step projects, create documents, presentations, spreadsheets and websites, and continue working on tasks in the background for hours when necessary.

Powered by the newly launched GPT-5.6 model, ChatGPT Work claims to execute multi-step tasks, gather information from connected applications, and create documents, spreadsheets, presentations and web apps. Users can still monitor progress, provide feedback and approve important actions.
OpenAI is also merging the standalone Codex app into the ChatGPT desktop app, allowing it to interact with local files, websites and desktop applications from a single interface. The platform connects to workplace tools via plugins, allowing ChatGPT to retrieve information and complete tasks across multiple services.
It also introduces Scheduled Tasks that allow ChatGPT to automatically monitor updates, generate reports, refresh documents and perform workflows based on schedules or events, even when the user is away.
OpenAI is also launching Sites in public beta, enabling users to build and publish interactive websites and internal business portals directly from ChatGPT.
“Used ChatGPT Work to build a repeatable system for reviewing thousands of leads each month. It traced customer touchpoints across Zapier’s CRM, email, and other tools, found where follow-ups broke down, and generated a weekly executive dashboard that highlighted missed pipeline and revealed seven figures in potential sales,” said Angela Ferrante, head of Enterprise Marketing at Zapier.
