The rise of Mobile AI is prompting the telecommunications industry to rethink common service standards and uplink performance.

China Communications Standards Association (CCSA) chairman Dr Wen Ku proposes developing a unified set of Mobile AI service assessment metrics, similar to mean opinion scores (MOS) used to evaluate voice quality, to support the industry’s orderly development.

Moreover, GSMA senior technical director Barbara Pareglio said Mobile AI is transforming mobile networks from being primarily downlink-focused to requiring balanced uplink and downlink performance. She noted that key directions for network evolution include uplink enhancement, latency assurance, and synergy between terminal networks and the cloud.

Enhancing uplink capabilities for operators

At Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2026, Huawei has launched the GigaUplink Solution to enhance uplink capabilities for operators seeking to build a solid foundation for Mobile AI. The solution combines advanced multi-antenna technology with intelligent spectrum, device-network, and network-collaboration algorithms to improve uplink capacity, coverage, and user experience for Mobile AI services.

In a keynote speech, Huawei Wireless FDD Product Line president Zeng Chuang underscored the role of mid-band spectrum in meeting Mobile AI requirements for coverage, capacity, and latency.

Huawei said that the GigaUplink solution delivers up to a fivefold increase in uplink capacity and improves coverage by up to 10 decibels through new 8T8R and Massive MIMO antenna technologies combined with its GigaGreen platform for simplified, ultra-wideband deployment.

The solution also incorporates three intelligent collaboration algorithms: spectrum collaboration to optimise 5G spectrum allocation, device-network collaboration to align network settings with device capabilities, and network collaboration to enable joint signal reception and interference suppression across cells.

Zengadded: “Huawei will continue to collaborate with industry partners to build GigaUplink networks for Mobile AI through joint standards, ecosystem, and business development.”
