Funded by the National Research Foundation, (NRF), the NQS will focus on four funding initiatives anchored by four strategic thrusts:

Scientific Excellence: The NQS aims to invest in upgrading the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) into a national R&D centre. In partnership with various institutions such as the Agency for Science, Technology and Research  (A*STAR) and local universities, it aims to create collaboration between research talent across the country to propel the priorities of Singapore’s quantum research.

Engineering Capabilities:  The NQS targets to enhance the Quantum Engineering Programme 3.0 (QEP 3.0) by adding a new National Quantum Sensor Programme (NQSP) to strengthen Singapore’s capabilities in quantum technologies and accelerate translation of quantum solutions.

Talent: The NQS also aims to fund a National Quantum Scholarships Scheme (NQSS) to develop up to 100 PhD and 100 Master-level quantum talent over the next five years. The scheme aims to meet Singapore’s research and industry needs and develop quantum-readiness among its workforce.

Innovation & Enterprise Partnerships: Part of the strategy is building strong industry partnerships and nurturing enterprises which can work with the National Quantum Office (NQO).
