Approximately three-quarters (73.6%) of IT decision-makers believe that Artificial intelligence (AI) is the trend that will shape the IT industry the most in 2024, according to an open survey of the market and opinion research institute Civey commissioned by eco – the Association of the Internet Industry.
“Generative AI such as ChatGPT has arrived in companies in 2023. But the possibilities of AI go far beyond the automated creation of content,” says eco chair Oliver Süme.
“Artificial intelligence (AI) applications along the entire value chain – for example, from the cloud and based on AI ecosystems – can strengthen the international competitiveness of any company in 2024.”
Recommendations
The eco Association recommends relying on AI from the cloud and strengthening IT security with AI applications to realise the productivity potential of AI in 2024 and increase IT security, productivity, and competitiveness with AI solutions.
It also recommends investing in digital infrastructure to process AI data with low latency, using AI to drive employee satisfaction by redesigning workflows and processes, and participating in new and emerging AI ecosystems.
Other industry trends
The survey on 352 IT decision makers shows the landslide lead of AI at 73.6%, as compared to other trends in the IT industry such as digital security (6.5%), digitalisation (3%), cloud solution (3%), automation of processes (2.2%), internet of things (1.2%), and IT sector skills shortage (0.9%).
