Distinguished VP Analyst and Gartner fellow Daryl Plummer spotlights AI agents as an emerging technology.
He describes an agent as software that executes tasks for you and emphasises that these powerful AI tools have the potential to perform complex tasks, inspiring a hopeful vision of the future.
Additionally, Plummer says that there are "guardian agents" who can oversee other AI agents to ensure reliability. These agents arise out of security, a large language model orchestration, and " out of this notion that we want these long-running autonomous goal-seeking agents that have agency."
Plummer also emphasises that tech providers must push beyond basic functionalities and be more ambitious to see groundbreaking results, instilling a sense of motivation and drive toward innovation.
"Agents must do things that could not be easily done with an app or pre-planned process, or they'll fail to capture customer imagination. They will fail to compel customers to pay for them," he says, challenging the audience to think beyond the conventional.
