Workday, Inc.’s new research highlights how disconnected AI tools create friction and slow decision-making, increasing stress and reducing productivity for Hong Kong and Taiwan employees, with about a quarter spending over seven hours weekly reconciling data and moving information.

Daniel Cham, general manager for Workday Greater China, said: “Organisations need to move beyond surface-level AI adoption and integrate AI into the core systems and workflows where their people, data and work come together. This is where AI can deliver the greatest business impact, helping organisations in Hong Kong improve productivity, make better decisions, and drive growth.”
Costs of fragmented AI
The report, “The Copy/Paste Economy: Why Task-Oriented AI Is Failing the Enterprise,” shows that 80% of Hong Kong and Taiwan workers spend significant time managing work across multiple systems. It underscores that integrating AI into unified platforms can reduce time wasted on switching and manual data transfer, boosting efficiency.
“Organisations in Hong Kong and Taiwan are embracing AI, but many are still layering it onto fragmented systems and workflows. While employees are already seeing AI help them work more efficiently on individual tasks, these gains can be lost when they have to move between disconnected tools and systems,” Cham said.
The research also found that fragmented AI creates daily friction among Taiwan and Hong Kong employees and keeps AI on the sidelines compared to the global average. Moreover, the research revealed the productivity cost of fragmented systems and causes lower confidence in trusted data.
The research highlighted the advantages of integrated AI platforms rather than disconnected, standalone applications. This shift enables organisations to reduce low-value copy-and-paste work and provides employees with more effective tools.
