Salesforce has announced Slack Code and dedicated code channels, a new surface environment designed to turn AI software development into a collaborative, multiplayer activity.
“AI only creates value when it’s part of how a team actually works, not something people go do alone in another tab. Code channels bring that work into the open, where the rest of the team can see it, shape it, and build on it,” said Rob Seaman, EVP and GM of Slack, Salesforce.
Collaborative AI software development
Slack Code enables cross-functional teams to confidently work with AI coding agents, including Anthropic’s Claude Code, Cognition’s Devin, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Vercel agents, from a unified space rather than isolated tabs or terminals.
It aims to support democratised software creation, faster delivery, and enterprise-grade governance with Slack’s secure environment and admin permissions.
Key capabilities include:
- Automatic Workspace Lifecycle: Tagging an AI agent in any conversation automatically provisions a project-based code channel that archives after task completion, maintaining a searchable audit log.
- Dedicated Execution Tabs: Each channel features separate tabs for discussion, action plans, code diffs, and live output previews.
- Ecosystem and Platform Access: Built on flexible APIs, Slack Code integrates with major partner agents (Claude Code, Devin, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Vercel) and will open to custom enterprise agents across non-engineering functions like legal and marketing.
- Human-in-the-Loop Safeguards: Channel members can pause or stop an agent at any time
“Slack Code enables AI to move beyond individual copilots to embedded, contextual AI orchestration to deliver real AI ROI at scale,” said Rebecca Wettemann, CEO and Principal Analyst, Valoir Research.
Slack Code is available on all Slack plans, although integrations with partner AI agents require separate access. Slack users can also access more than 500 AI applications through the Slack Marketplace.
