Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has announced the successful deployment of a world-class 5G infrastructure backbone covering over 80% of Malaysia's populated area. DNB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azman Ismail said the deployment is a full year ahead of schedule.
"Our 5G network is acclaimed as one of the fastest and most consistent in the world by the global web testing and network diagnostics company, Ookla," Ismail said.
He also announced that the 5G network has received multiple awards for performance and innovation from OpenSignal, Global Telecom Awards, and FutureNet, highlighting the technology's readiness.
Transforming manufacturing sector
The announcement was made during the recent "Connected Industries Day: Transforming Manufacturing with 5G and AI" workshop that aims to become a platform for industry leaders, domain experts, and stakeholders to shape the future of manufacturing.
In his address, Minister of Digital, Yang Berhormat Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, underscored the importance of embracing 5G use cases and digital solutions: "As an important hub for digitalization in the country, with 13 data centre facilities across more than 1.65 million square feet of land mass, Johor is poised to attract billions of ringgit in foreign investment."

Ismail reiterated DNB's commitment to support the government's journey towards digital transformation. He said, "As we progress towards a new, competitive, dual-network landscape, DNB remains committed to supporting the Government's digital agenda by promoting 5G adoptionto spur economic activity and transform the way Malaysians live, learn, work, and play."
