GitHub introduced several new updates for GitHub Actions to support enterprises by providing enhanced security and features to GitHub-hosted runners. The updates are poised to simplify the adoption of GitHub Actions across various project sizes and complexities.
“We’re focused on elevating the Azure private networking feature set, enabling the creation of network configurations encompassing multiple virtual networks. Additionally, we’re streamlining setup processes through scripting and implementing best practices for VNET peering to accommodate unsupported Azure regions,” Tanmayee Kamath, senior product manager at GitHub, said.
Azure private networking
With the general availability of Azure private networking, action workflows can run on GitHub-hosted runners, connected to their Azure virtual network, and provide fully managed compute in the cloud for running CI/CD and automation workflows. Actions workflows can access storage accounts, databases, on-premises data sources, and other Azure services.
Moreover, Network Security Group (NSG) or firewall rules automatically apply to GitHub-hosted runners.
Additional runners SKUs
Additionally, GitHub announces the general availability of the latest enhancements to the GitHub-hosted runner including two vCPU Linux and four vCPU Windows runners to support auto-scaling and private networking features. It also provides enhanced security and performance sufficient for smaller machine demand scenarios.
