The demand for data analytics professionals is expected to rise, with the data analytics industry identified as an important growth sector in Singapore. Studies indicate that it contributes at least S$1 billion (US$730 million) to Singapore’s economy each year.
TIBCO announced a three-year collaboration with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) that will support the institute's Data Science diploma course and ensure that professionals entering the workforce have advanced analytics skills.
“Data analytics capabilities are critical in developing agile, customer-focused digital enterprises. We believe that it is important to pursue industry partnerships to enhance our diploma programmes and empower students to meet the evolving demands of the workforce,” said Patrice Choong, director, School of InfoComm Technology, NP.
NP's Diploma in Data Science is the first full-time Data Science related PET course amongst all five polytechnics in Singapore. It is designed to train students to fully grasp new employment opportunities in the field of data analytics and data engineering.
Data Analysts use analytical tools and apply software development techniques to investigate leads, identify patterns and insights from data, and offer solutions to address information needs of the organisation.
Data Engineers set up data pipelines to ingest data from multiple sources, perform data extraction, transformation, and loading tasks, and wrangle data for further processing. It will also be the first time that students will have the opportunity to experience end-to-end data science solutions, therefore expanding their skills and capabilities – putting them in a more employable position in the growing Data Analytics sector in Singapore.
TIBCO's Academic Alliance Program enables students to gain experience, turning insights into action using state-of-the-art, end-to-end solutions including TIBCO Spotfire and TIBCO Data Science software.
The program provides educators and students with free or low-cost cutting-edge technology to spark learning and innovation in classrooms around the world and prepare the workforce of tomorrow.
TIBCO is a partner of choice for Ngee Ann Polytechnic as TIBCO offers a comprehensive suite of solutions that covers end-to-end spectrum of data science, from specialised platforms that provide real-time big data collection, virtualisation and wrangling, to automated solutions for deployment of machine learning models. This wide variety of offerings aptly fits the curricula of Ngee Ann Polytechnic's course offerings.
Nick Lim, general manager, APJ, TIBCO, said: “This partnership with NP supports its mission of moulding the next generation of tech professionals, and allows us to create opportunities for students to learn advanced data analytics capabilities with our industry-leading solutions.”
Integration into curricula
TIBCO Data Science, TIBCO Spotfire, TIBCO Streaming, and other solutions will first be included in modules of NP’s Diploma in Data Science. Students will also have an opportunity to apply classroom learning to internships at partner organisations, helping gain industry experience.
In their final year, students will have the opportunity to apply their technical knowledge through the polytechnic’s Industry Kickstart Programme and Capstone Project.
After the first year, the collaboration will expand to include TIBCO solutions in other relevant programmes. The partnership aims to train 200 NP students per year for the next three years.
TIBCO partners with post-secondary institutions across the Asia Pacific region, including Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, the Institute of Technical Education in Singapore, and the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in Indonesia.
