According to Fortifying Cyber Resilience: Insights into Global Cybersecurity Practices by Keeper Security, 70% of people are worried about managing too many passwords, accounts, and logins in Singapore. The report also found that 90% of Singaporeans believe their passwords are secure, but around 45% reuse them across platforms.
Password management
The report also revealed that Singaporeans rely on memory (35%), write them down (20%), and store them in a browser or phone notes app (19%) to manage passwords.
Some 34% of Singaporeans also admit to sharing passwords for streaming sites. The other most commonly shared passwords include shopping accounts (25%), personal emails (19%), social media (16%), work/school emails (24%), and work productivity platforms (33%).
Securing passwords
The research found that only 12% of global respondents use a secure password manager to store, generate, and securely share passwords, despite leading industry experts and government cybersecurity warnings.
“The data reveals a cybersecurity paradox: people feel confident in their cybersecurity knowledge yet are frequently targeted by cyber-attacks and scams,” said Darren Guccione, CEO and Co-Founder of Keeper Security. This disparity emphasises that knowledge alone cannot mitigate cyber risks; using tools like password managers and following best practices are vital for reducing cyber risks.”
