Some 77% of Singapore's public agencies are concerned with AI's impact on energy consumption, according to "The Drivers of Change: Meeting the Energy and Data Demands of AI Adoption in Singapore's Public Sector" report from Pure Storage. The report also highlighted that the majority of Singapore public agencies prioritise sustainability (90%) and are exploring solutions to address their concern about AI's impact on their energy use.
AI adoption and deployment
The report revealed that most (97%) of Singapore's respondents have already adopted AI to drive innovation, productivity, and better citizen experiences or are running trials for various use cases such as virtual assistance, personalised service delivery, and AI operations.
Further, the study found a significant gap in the AI preparedness of public agencies in Singapore, with 83% admitting the need to modernise their IT infrastructure to support AI deployment. Public sector organisations recognise the need to upgrade their data storage (73%), compute infrastructure (60%) and networking infrastructure (60%) following AI implementation.
The report highlights the link between the AI readiness of IT infrastructure and the achievement of ESG goals. An overwhelming 100% of the public agencies surveyed believe that meeting ESG goals is impossible without the AI readiness of their IT infrastructure.
"To sustain Singapore's national AI strategy rollout, public agencies must ensure that they have set up their foundational infrastructure in a way that optimises both AI-scale data demands and energy efficiency. As AI paves the way forward to improve Singapore's citizen services, meeting sustainability and the sector's ESG goals remains critical in order to work towards a net-zero carbon economy," said Nathan Hall, vice president of Asia Pacific & Japan, Pure Storage.
