Variscite has made QNX Operating System (OS) 8.0 available across its i.MX 8M Plus modules aim to provide a secure OS for highly reliable embedded systems.

"It's great to have QNX support across Variscite's range of innovative SoMs," said Grant Courville, SVP of Products and Strategy, QNX. "This underscores our commitment to delivering robust, real-time operating systems and foundational software components to enable performance, security, safety and reliability. By leveraging QNX's modular architecture and real-time capabilities, Variscite will be able to offer cutting-edge integrated solutions tailored to the needs of various mission-critical industries."
QNX
QNX's commercial-grade, microkernel-based real-time operating system (RTOS) claims to be highly suitable for secure, robust devices that require a comprehensive hardware-software foundation.
QNX on Variscite SoMs offers key benefits, including robust security mechanisms designed for industries with strict compliance requirements, providing a reassuring level of system reliability.
Moreover, it complies with IEC 62304 software safety standards, adding to Variscite ISO 13485 hardware certification.
Variscite also provides commercial support, maintenance, regular updates, and lifecycle commitments, aligning with Variscite's hardware longevity commitment and ensuring the security of projects.

"We are pleased to expand our ecosystem with QNX's RTOS solution, providing our customers with additional OS support to suit their project needs," said Ofer Austerlitz, VP of Business Development and Sales at Variscite. "As embedded systems become increasingly complex, requiring advanced hardware capabilities while adhering to strict regulations, QNX offers a complementary solution that aligns with Variscite's commitment to compliance and long-term support."
SoM families
Variscite also provides two highly scalable pin-compatible SoM families, VAR-SOM and DART, which are advantageous for product development and lifecycle management.
With Pin2Pin compatibility, customers can easily migrate between different performance levels without redesigning their carrier boards for seamless upgrades or downgrades.
