At the time of this writing, an overarching personal data protection (PDP) law remains in development in Indonesia. Most of the existing data protection are siloed and sporadic, according to PwC. And even when the Personal Data Protection Bill is passed into law, businesses will still have two years to comply.

Customer databases have also been “rented out” to other parties like banks, insurers and retailers as additional revenue source.
