At the time of this writing, an overarching personal data protection (PDP) law remains in development in Indonesia.  Most of the existing data protection are siloed and sporadic, according to PwC. And even when the Personal Data Protection Bill is passed into law, businesses will still have two years to comply.

Regardless, XL Axiata may be seeing the writing on the wall, and is prepping its infrastructure and processes in support of protecting consumer rights to their personal data along the lines of the EU’s general data protection regulation (GDPR).

XL Axiata undertakes robust digital transformation initiative to streamline customer-facing systems for 55 million subscribers

The mobile industry is a competitive marketplace where the quality of customer service is often the differentiator. One way to stem competition and protect its more than 55 million subscriber-base, XL Axiata concluded it needed a way to provide a secure, unified and engaging digital experience.

The company sought a secure and reliable identity management platform to unify the way its customers access its services.

The telco wanted to deepen customer relationships and build greater trust by providing a way for users to decide what personal information the company can hold, and why. For this it also sought a “partner” to provide consent management capabilities.

XL Axiata to use ForgeRock Identity Platform to launch a cloud-based initiative to unify its many customer-facing systems.

XL Axiata’s desire to deepen customer engagement can lead to multiple outcomes: customer loyalty, additional revenue via product cross-selling, boost to its investment potential from outside parties who favour market leaders as opposed to laggards, and a way to stay relevant to its customers and the market. Customer databases have also been “rented out” to other parties like banks, insurers and retailers as additional revenue source.

XL Axiata’s strategy could also be a way for it to stem

ForgeRock sales pitch

ForgeRock further protects workloads also on bring-your-own-cloud, hybrid-cloud, and multi-cloud models, eliminating cloud vendor lock-in.
