Akamai Technologies, Inc. launched Akamai Content Protector to help detect and mitigate evasive scrapers without blocking good website traffic, protecting companies' intellectual property, reputation, and revenue.
“Content scraping brings serious harm to businesses. This includes competitors undercutting your offers, slower sites that lead customers to get frustrated and leave, and brand damage from counterfeiters passing off subpar goods as your legitimate merchandise,” said Rupesh Chokshi, senior vice president and general manager of application security, at Akamai.
Akamai Content Protector
Akamai Content Protector is equipped with protocol-level assessment. Its protocol fingerprinting evaluates connections with the server at the different layers of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model — confirming that the set parameters match most common web browsers and mobile applications.
“Content Protector helps demonstrate the direct business value of security while enabling business leaders to grow their digital businesses,” adds Chokshi.
Other features
It also has an application-level assessment that can evaluate the client’s ability to run business logic written in JavaScript to collect user preferences and device and browser characteristics. It verifies consistency by comparing various data points and cross-checking against the protocol-level data.
The content protector can analyse human interaction with the client through the touch screen, keyboard, and mouse. It can typically associate bot traffic with a lack of interaction or abnormal interaction. It can also monitor the user journey through the website and it can differentiate botnets and legitimate traffic.
The solution can classify risk based on anomalies found during evaluation. It can provide a deterministic and actionable low-, medium-, or high-risk traffic classification.
