Equinix, Inc. invested $124 million in its International Business Exchangeâ„¢ (IBX®) data centres in Hong Kong to address the city's demand for high-performance data centres. The new facility, HK6, will be interconnected to Equinix's five existing data centres.Â
"HK6 will be Equinix's largest investment in Hong Kong in the past decade, further strengthening the city's digital infrastructure and showcasing our unwavering confidence in this dynamic market. This strategic investment solidifies Hong Kong's position as a crucial gateway for data exchange between China and the global community," Joanne Hon, managing director of Equinix Hong Kong, said.
Sustainability
In line with the Hong Kong government's Climate Action Plan 2050, which aims for carbon neutrality before 2050, Equinix is implementing its novel AI-driven approaches to regulate temperature and optimise energy management in its facilities.
HK6 will be equipped with the latest in data centre technology, including liquid cooling, designed to deliver high performance and reliability for enterprise-grade AI workloads. Like Equinix's other IBX data centres in Hong Kong, HK6 will be 100% covered by renewables, a key part of its strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, focusing on incorporating clean renewable energy sources.
Equinix has reduced energy consumption by 5% and saved approximately 200MWh per site annually, helping lower carbon emissions and support Hong Kong's sustainability initiatives.
Equinix targets to open HK6 in the first quarter of 2026. The first phase will provide 1,000 cabinets and, upon completion, expand to 3,550 cabinets.
