GitHub announced the launch of GitHub Models, which aims to enable more than 100 million developers to become AI engineers and build with AI models. The initiative allows developers to access Llama 3.1, GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, Phi 3, or Mistral Large 2 via a built-in playground, allowing them to test different prompts and model parameters for free in GitHub.
Interactive model playground
The new interactive model playground gives students, hobbyists, startups, and others a chance to explore the most popular private and open models to experiment, compare, test, and deploy AI applications where they manage their source code. To ensure privacy and security, no prompts or outputs in GitHub Models will be shared with model providers or used to train or improve the models.
Democratising AI
“Today, we democratise AI for the many. With GitHub Models, more than 100 million developers can now access and experiment with new AI models where their workflow is—directly on GitHub,” said GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke.
Dohmke said they plan to democratise access to AI technologies to develop one billion developers in the coming years, enabling “10% of the world’s population to build and advance breakthroughs that will accelerate human progress.”
