Singapore secured seventh place on the list of most desirable cities to work in globally. It emerged as the top Asian city that most respondents would consider moving to for work, maintaining its place in the list since 2020.
“Employers in Singapore must strive to attract and retain local and foreign talent, as we could expect talent shortages in the future with the country’s small and ageing population,” says Chew Siew Mee, managing director, Singapore, Jobstreet by SEEK.
Attractive for work
Based on a survey of more than 150,000 workers from 188 countries, Decoding Global Talent 2024 by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), results also revealed that respondents wishing to move abroad to work do so due to financial and economic reasons (64%) and career considerations (56%).
Due to the abundance of quality job opportunities, overall quality of life, cost of living, and reputation for safety, stability, and security, Singapore attracts talent from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, China, and India for job opportunities in the Marketing and Media, Digital, Data Science, and AI sectors.
Recruitment overhaul
“Other countries can be a great source of talent. But establishing a channel of workers from abroad requires employers to fundamentally overhaul how they recruit, relocate, and integrate talent,” said Jens Baier, managing director, senior partner, and leader of BCG’s work in HR excellence.
Baier advises employers to challenge their biases and seek talent from other markets and regions.
