Synology announced new ActiveProtect appliances, a data protection lineup combining centralised management with a highly scalable architecture for ease of use.
“The launch of ActiveProtect reflects Synology’s unceasing commitment to empowering our users with the tools to manage their most valuable asset—data,” said Philip Wong, chairman and CEO of Synology.

The system aims to centralise organisation-wide data protection policies, tasks, and appliances for a unified management and control plane.
It claims to significantly reduce operational overhead through an intuitive design that can implement immutability and recovery procedures. Using a centralised console, it can also be deployed in minutes and create comprehensive data protection plans through global policies.
Each ActiveProtect appliance claims it can operate in standalone or cluster-managed modes, with a storage capacity that can be tiered with Synology NAS/SAN storage solutions, C2 Object Storage, and other ActiveProtect appliances in the cluster. Notably, existing Synology Active Backup for Business deployments are seamlessly manageable from the unified interface, providing high deployment flexibility.
ActiveProtect appliances are designed for speed and efficiency, leveraging incremental backups with source-side, global, and cross-site deduplication. This innovative approach significantly reduces operating costs and delivers fast backups and replication with minimal bandwidth usage. It boasts a backup speed that is up to 7 times faster, with a typical deduplication ratio of over 2:1.
“In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, businesses face unprecedented challenges in safeguarding data. With the new ActiveProtect offering, we aim to empower organisations of all sizes to address cybersecurity challenges head-on,” said Wong.
