Gartner analysts list six trends significantly impacting infrastructure and operations (I&O) over the next 12 to 18 months. Jeffrey Hewitt, Vice President Analyst at Gartner, says I&O leaders should use the top trends for 2024 in implementing effective tactics that can impact their organisations.Â
Top 2024 trends
Trend No. 1: Machine Customers: Gartner predicts a steady rise in machine customers, nonhuman economic actors that obtain goods or services in exchange for payment. Projections state that by 2027, AI personal assistants will work for 50% of people in advanced economies.
Trend No. 2: AI Trust, Risk and Security Management (AI TRiSM): By 2026, organisations that operationalise AI TRiSM gain a 50% improvement in the adoption, business goals, and user acceptance of the AI models.
Trend No. 3: Augmented-Connected Workforce: Gartner predicts organisations to have more inclination toward an augmented-connected workforce or the intentional management, deployment, and customisation of technology to support the general well-being of the workforce.Â
Trend No. 4: Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM): A CTEM program is a new approach that prioritises potential threats and refines security posture improvements.Â
Trend No. 5: Democratised Generative AI (GenAI):  Cloud and open-source contribute to democratising GenAI. A Gartner poll found that 55% of organisations are in piloting or production mode with the technology.Â
Trend No. 6: Nationalism versus globalism: Because international conflicts drive a domestic approach, pressure will be heavy on I&O to find solutions that keep more technologies, resources, and talent in their country.Â
