Zero-trust got a big boost in 2021-2022 following US President Joe Biden’s executive order mandating zero trust architectures in the government. Gartner forecasts global spending on information security to reach US$170 billion in 2022 and rise to US$233 billion by 2025. VentureBeat says US$122 billion will go to Identity Access Management (IAM) in 2022.
Key pain points driving zero trust
SailPoint senior vice president for Asia-Pacific, Chern-Yue Boey, says to make better identity decisions, enterprises need tools that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to automate the discovery, management, and governance of all user access. With AI and ML, enterprises can get intelligence and insights into access privileges, abnormal entitlements, and potential risks so they can easily control access, automate IT tasks, mitigate threats, and empower their workforce.
He added that another pain point is enabling comprehensive integration across enterprises’ hybrid environments. Despite the accelerated digital transformation seen in many enterprises over the last few years, many are still using outdated tools or manual processes to secure their identities.
“These do not meet the needs of today’s modern enterprise. No matter how complex the business environment is or where it operates, organizations need an identity security solution that integrates seamlessly across their environment (cloud, on-prem, structured & unstructured data and all systems), empowering them to centrally control access to all data, applications, and infrastructure without disrupting workflows."

Raising the identity security bar
SailPoint Technologies unveiled two new product suites designed to provide customers with next-generation identity security capabilities. These product suites set a new standard for identity security, embracing an autonomous, intelligent approach to protecting modern enterprises.
In today’s ever-changing threat environment, SailPoint offers a dynamic identity security foundation capable of evolving to match the changing needs of its customers’ business demands.
“Securing and managing identities across all aspects of the technology stack has grown too complex for manual management to be viable,” said Matt Mills, president of worldwide operations for SailPoint.
He added that customer needs have also moved well beyond simply providing secure access and ensuring compliance. Identity security today needs to be autonomous, intelligent and integrated — an approach unique to SailPoint.
“Today’s enterprises need the ability to secure their entire workforce properly and efficiently across all identities and access points. With these new suites, SailPoint is making that process easier than ever by pioneering an AI and ML-driven approach to identity security that will set enterprises up for scalable, long-term success,” he continued.
New product suites
The two new SailPoint Identity Security Cloud suites cater to new and existing SailPoint customers with the identity security SaaS components that organizations need to secure their enterprise and empower their workforce, catering to new and existing SailPoint customers.
The new offerings include an option for organizations just getting started and one for customers with a more advanced approach to identity security in place, the two suites offered include:
- SailPoint Identity Security Cloud Business—a collection of essential identity security capabilities to start an identity security journey built with AI and ML.
- SailPoint Identity Security Cloud Business Plus—a comprehensive identity security suite built with AI and ML to discover, secure, and manage identities across an entire hybrid infrastructure.
The two suites also make it easier for customers to integrate additional SailPoint identity security offerings, instantly providing added value from existing investments in the SailPoint product.
Towards a secure, flexible identity security posture
Boey says the first step is adopting identity security as an overall security strategy, as security starts with people. With a strong identity security solution, enterprises can leverage AI and ML technology to deliver the right access to the right users throughout a user’s lifecycle, while ensuring consistency and visibility across the entire organization.
As a result, IT processes are automated and enterprises can easily identify risks, monitor behaviours, and refine roles across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, remote work, and multiple devices.
“An intelligent identity platform will not only provide automation and offer complete integration into existing systems, but it will also protect the business at scale and ensure compliance while mitigating cyber threats,” he concluded.
