UN Global Compact Network Singapore(UN GCNS) has announced the second iteration of its Carbon Emissions Reduction Tool (CERT) programme. The upgraded platform aligns with GHG Protocol, ISO14064-1, which aims for faster submissions, expanded accessibility, and an enhanced user experience and targets to accelerate carbon emission reductions by Singaporean companies.
Forward Faster
The announcement was made during the 16th UN GCNS Summit, "Forward Faster: Accelerating Corporate Action for Sustainable Development." The summit aimed to become a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and action to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region.
"In today's uncertain global landscape, publicly committing to ambitious sustainability targets may appear daunting. However, failing to do so not only undermines accountability but also erodes trust with crucial stakeholders like customers and investors. Establishing goals that foster trust, stay ahead of evolving sustainability regulations, and meet changing market expectations is imperative," the UN Global Compact (UN GC) website explained.
The UN GC launched the global platform to guide companies on making an impact, citing that only 15% of the SDGs are on track for 2030.
Pledging support
"We are pleased to share that, in Asia alone, over 300 companies across numerous sectors have already pledged their support for the "Forward Faster" initiative," said Dr. Bicky Bhangu, president of UN GCNS.
Companies that pledged support to the initiative committed to taking action in five areas to accelerate progress across the SDGs: gender equality, climate action, living wage, water resilience, and finance and investment.
The UN GC explained, "Each area has specific actions to help you build a more resilient company while also building a resilient society and planet."
