Around 85% of business leaders reported that their organisations have already begun cloud adoption, making it the dominant emerging technology in Asia Pacific (APAC) according to Anatomy of Adaptive Leaders: Navigating Emerging Technologies, a report developed by Economist Impact and commissioned by Red Hat, Inc.
“We are excited as cloud computing enjoys broader popularity in terms of full adoption among companies in the region, and early-stage adoption is also evident among APAC companies for AI, generative AI, and data platforms,” comments Marjet Andriesse, senior vice president and general manager, APJC at Red Hat.
Emerging technology in APAC
The study on 375 business leaders from various organisations, revealed that the majority of APAC companies are integrating emerging technologies like cloud adoption, generative AI, and data platforms.
Around 87% of Japanese executives confirm they have fully adopted cloud computing technology. Around 73% of companies in South Korea and 71% in India reported high to very high progress in adopting data science capabilities. In Singapore, 70% of business leaders have not adopted generative AI due to talent and skills gaps.
The talent gap also is a top risk currently impacting organisations (77%), especially in Japan (87%), Australia (84%), South Korea (81%), and the natural resources and services industries.
Adaptive leadership
The study reports that APAC leaders desire upskilling of employees by creating forecasts for business performance under adverse and optimistic scenarios (54%), refocusing their supply chain strategy (46%), and cutting operational costs (45%).
“Encouragingly, business leaders are reinforcing the need to be collaborative during this challenging period, recognising that the more effective path to business success is one where everyone is working towards a shared vision,” says Charles Ross, principal of policy and insights at Economist Impact.
