In collaboration with the Government of Malaysia, Google launches two initiatives to equip Malaysian youth with AI skills and enhance public service delivery through cloud-native, AI-driven productivity tools to strengthen Malaysia’s digital competitiveness.
For the youth and public sector
Google and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) will provide 161 institutes of higher learning with 500 Google Career Certificate scholarships until the end of 2024. Students from various backgrounds can learn about cybersecurity, data analytics, and IT support within three to six months through flexible, self-paced online training. The program requires no prior experience.
Moreover, theGoogle Cloud Skills Boost program aims to equip 445,000 public officers to boost productivity and build proficiency in in-demand cloud computing and AI skills.
Strengthening digital competitiveness
The collaboration focuses on four strategic areas to strengthen the country’s digital competitiveness: 1) advancing digital infrastructure investments to help companies expand online and overseas; 2) developing cloud-first policies for the AI economy; 3) making digital skills more accessible to Malaysians; and 4) accelerating secure and responsible AI adoption across the public and private sector.
“These initiatives have the potential to transform the way services are delivered for the benefit of all Malaysians, while working to equip people with the digital skills they need,” Karan Bhatia, the global head of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google said.
Dato' Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, minister of Higher Education, said that the collaboration will equip Malaysian students with essential skills to contribute meaningfully to their digital economy. He also acknowledges that learning in-demand skills will lead to job readiness and higher income.
“This will also translate to higher job satisfaction for workers and a larger digital talent pool for Malaysia,” he said.
