Forrester's recent report, " How Generative AI Will Influence Cloud Security, " explores how generative AI (genAI) will innovate cloud security.
The report enumerated the benefits of genAI in cloud security, including: "better threat detection, improved cloud detection and response, lower labour costs, and reduced exposure to regulatory fines and sanctions.
GenAI and cloud security
According to the report, genAI can boost cloud security via better detection and lower costs than heritage cloud security solutions, which have limited input signals for detection and response.
Moreover, the technology can boost cloud security with LLMs and generative adversarial networks.
"Forrester expects that cloud security solutions will use large language models (LLMs) for copilots and detection; large transaction models (LTMs) for threat detection; and generative adversarial networks (GANs) pit genAI against genAI," the report stated.
GenAI can also help protect cloud infrastructure through threat detection and copilots. The technology can improve cloud infrastructure platforms' visibility, security, and operational efficiency.
Further,Forrester expects that genAI can detect shadow and sanctioned SaaS application detection, enhancing risk assessment and improving data security posture management. Copilots are also helpful in policy management, investigation, and reporting.
Managing risks
Despite GenAI's benefits in cloud security, organisations that use the technology still need to manage the associated risks.
Governing GenAI models can be more difficult than traditional AI, as can enforcing intellectual property (IP) and privacy protections, GenAI explainability, and GenAI model poisoning and exploitation.
