Digital Realty's 2024 Global Data Insights Survey found that enterprises in Singapore (46%), South Korea (66%), and Hong Kong (45%) rate themselves as mature in AI adoption. However, only a quarter of enterprises in the region consider their current AI use to be transformative.
Strategic data management
The study showed that 81% of companies in Hong Kong are actively executing a formal data strategy for their existing or planned IT locations. Most (83%) companies are adopting a distributed data approach to tackle data gravity challenges.
Additionally, 43% of companies in Hong Kong are incorporating data location strategies into their AI plans, and 60% of Hong Kong IT leaders plan to expand their infrastructure in one to five more locations within the next two years.
Infrastructure challenges
The report found that over half (55%) of Hong Kong's companies lack the IT infrastructure to overcome AI-related processing and proximity challenges.
The most pressing infrastructure challenges cited are inadequate data storage to house the massive data sets that AI requires (86%) and insufficient computational power to run AI processing (70%).
"The key to success lies in a data-centric infrastructure that can seamlessly integrate data from various sources, deliver high-performance computing, and ensure robust connectivity. By prioritising sustainability and leveraging cutting-edge technologies, organisations can unlock the full potential of AI while minimising environmental impact," said Serene Nah, managing director and head of Asia Pacific for Digital Realty.
The insights are based on a survey of 2,000 IT leaders in 21 countries, including Australia, India, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea.
