With sixty-five per cent (65%) of IT leaders acknowledging that their defences are outdated and ill-equipped to handle AI-enabled attacks, and only 31% feeling confident in their ability to defend against them, the urgency of the AI cybersecurity threat is clear. This is according to Lenovo’s third Work Reborn report, Reinforcing the Modern Workplace.

“AI has changed the balance of power in cybersecurity. To keep up, organisations need intelligence that adapts as fast as the threats. That means fighting AI with AI,” said Rakshit Ghura, vice president & general manager, Lenovo Digital Workplace Solutions. “With intelligent, adaptive defences, IT leaders can protect their people, assets, and data while unlocking AI’s full potential to drive business forward.”
AI Threats
The report highlights that the top concerns among IT leaders include AI-powered external threats such as polymorphic malware, AI-driven phishing, and deepfake impersonation.
Moreover, most IT leaders surveyed (70%) consider employee misuse of AI as a significant risk. Over 60% say AI agents create a new class of insider threat that they are unprepared to manage.
Leaders are also considering protecting AI itself, as models, training data, and prompts become high-value targets.
AI-powered defenses
Lenovo urges IT leaders to deploy a two-pronged approach that enhances detection and embeds AI directly into their defences. According to the report, organisations can improve productivity, optimise costs, and accelerate AI adoption by strengthening their AI security foundations.
“With AI tools proliferating beyond IT’s visibility and attackers exploiting gaps traditional systems can’t recognise, Lenovo is delivering the AI-powered defences enterprises need to close the gap, turning risk into resilience and enabling workplaces that are protected, productive, and future-ready,” added Ghura.
