China-based online entertainment platform iQIYI, in a collaboration with the esteemed Academy Award-winning Cinematographer and director Mr Peter Pau, has launched the AI Storytelling Lab. This innovative initiative is designed to cultivate a new breed of professional creators adept in AI-powered filmmaking.
The project, titled "Peter Pau × iQIYI AI Theatre, with the theme of "Your Vision, The Next Dimension", is a continuation of iQIYI's global AI Short Film Creation Competition held in July with Google and ByteDance.

AI storytelling lab
The AI Storytelling Lab invites submissions to produce AI-driven 15-minute films. Thirty teams will be selected for a one-week residency to receive mentorship from a team of expert instructors. Half will advance to the official production slate, with iQIYI providing support for production, distribution, promotion, and continued mentorship.
Experts will judge submissions based on artistic and commercial merit, as well as the integration of AI technologies into the creative process. Finalist works are scheduled to premiere in the first quarter of 2026, and creators will be eligible for a 30% share of net profits.
"With the launch of AI Storytelling Lab, we aim to create an open platform where creators worldwide can harness AI to push imagination beyond boundaries and redefine the future of entertainment," commented Pau.
Pau is the first Hong Kong cinematographer to receive an Oscar and a winner of honours at the Hong Kong Film Awards and Golden Horse Awards.
