Experts call for quantum readiness in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region as it continues ramping up its quantum computing investments.
Recognising the quantum wave
During the first World Quantum Readiness Day, Anant Deshpande, VP for India & ASEAN at DigiCert, commented: “India and ASEAN regions are starting to recognise the quantum wave, but progress towards readiness is varied, with some countries like India and Singapore leading the way. Critical requisites such as more investments in digital infrastructure and recognition of quantum standards are just beginning to see green shoots.”
Deshpande said that telecom companies are beginning to roll out quantum-safe networks, a trend that will likely spread to other organisations.
“For a smooth transition to a quantum future in the region, it is essential that both governments and companies collaborate and prioritise these investments to ensure security in the post-quantum era,” he added.
Quantum readiness
Aside from upgrading to new cryptographic standards, experts during the World Quantum Readiness Day also discussed the importance of adopting a holistic approach to security, including innovations like quantum key distribution (QKD) to build a practical quantum computing infrastructure and training engineers to work with new quantum technologies.
