Generative AI, with its potential to create new job roles and enhance the efficiency of existing ones, can be a boon to the workforce. It impacts jobs and workers depending on varying labor market dynamics and other demand drivers.
Gartner posits that some leaders struggle to create stable workforce plans aligned with their technology and business investments due to the blend of certainty and uncertainty.
Distinguished VP Analyst Helen Poitevin discusses vital considerations when navigating GenAI in the workplace.
Blend of perspectives
Poitevin says: "The simplest way to Define generative AI is to say that it's generating something new; it's using AI capabilities to look at what has existed before, and it generates something new out of it."
She adds that leaders must maintain a balanced approach when navigating AI in the workplace. This involves combining two perspectives: evaluating how disruptive their AI investments are and understanding the business context.
"You need to understand if this is a part of your business that you're growing, whether it's a stable or core part of your business or if it's a part that you're shrinking," Poitevin said.
This balanced approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of AI's impact on the workforce
