Microsoft announced plans to invest $5.5 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure in Singapore over the next five years, as well as new initiatives to expand access to AI and build skills across the education and nonprofit sectors.

“The significant commitment Microsoft is making to Singapore reinforces its pivotal role as an AI innovation hub in Asia. We’re all-in on Singapore’s AI future, and access and skills will be fundamental to fully realising this nation’s ambitions. By embedding AI literacy into everyday learning and in how every sector, from enterprise to nonprofits, operates, we’re building on the National AI Strategy 2.0 to drive inclusive, trusted AI adoption for genuine impact,” said Wee Luen Chia, managing director, Microsoft Singapore.
Advancing global digital leadership
Microsoft will provide free access to Microsoft 365 Copilot for all tertiary students in Singapore for 12 months. More than 200,000 students at universities and vocational institutions are expected to benefit by gaining access to AI-powered tools integrated into applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The company is also expanding its Microsoft Elevate programs to Singapore, granting teachers free training to build confidence in using AI responsibly in classrooms.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Elevate for Changemakers will offer nonprofit leaders training and credentials to strengthen AI adoption for social impact.

“Our ongoing investment in cloud and AI infrastructure reflects Microsoft’s long-term confidence in Singapore as a global digital leader,” said Brad Smith, vice chair and president of Microsoft. “Together, we’re focused on helping people and organisations use AI by strengthening skills, increasing cybersecurity and resilience, and advancing trusted governance so technology delivers real benefits for Singaporeans.”
