Although 85% of organisations globally place high importance on achieving their sustainability goals, only 16% have integrated sustainability into their strategies and data, according to Kyndryl’s Global Sustainability Barometer study conducted by Ecosystm.
Strategic importance
The study further revealed that only 37% believe they are making full use of technology in their organisations, even though 80% believe in its role in achieving goals. In Southeast Asia (SEA), 51% use artificial intelligence (AI) or Automation to achieve sustainability goals.
“Companies are thinking beyond regulatory compliance and are looking for support on how they can pragmatically execute and advance their sustainability goals with the right innovative solutions,” said Andrew Lim, managing director at Kyndryl, ASEAN.
In SEA, 51% of organisations use AI to monitor energy use, but only 32% leverage innovations to achieve sustainability goals. Approximately only a third of organisations in SEA have considered expanding the use of AI beyond reporting.
Sustainability best practices
The report reveals the need for organisations to appoint a dedicated sustainability lead, establish workforce development and employee empowerment measures, align sustainability with technology modernisation, and build an integrated data foundation to drive growth and improve business outcomes.
“Faced with record-breaking temperatures and unparalleled climate-related events, this is a moment that calls for collective action from governments, industries, enterprises, and individuals alike,” said Ullrich Loeffler, co-founder & CEO of Ecosystm.
