Red Hat has announced the general availability of Red Hat OpenShift Lightspeed, a generative AI (gen AI)-based virtual assistant integrated into Red Hat OpenShift, which aims to enhance user interaction and management of application platform deployments across the hybrid cloud.

Red Hat OpenShift Lightspeed

Red Hat OpenShift Lightspeed, a key addition to the Red Hat OpenShift ecosystem, aims to address the skills gap by providing OpenShift-specific, AI-powered capabilities directly within the console. It also claims to provide customised assistance directly within the Red Hat OpenShift web console, helping users navigate complex application landscapes.

"Red Hat OpenShift Lightspeed helps flatten the learning curve for Red Hat OpenShift users, enabling novices to get started more quickly and more experienced users to maximise efficiencies on the industry's leading hybrid cloud application platform powered by Kubernetes," Mike Barrett, vice president, Hybrid Platforms, Red Hat.

Users can ask Red Hat OpenShift Lightspeed questions about Red Hat OpenShift using natural language. It is also capable of assisting with tasks such as troubleshooting and investigating cluster resources, leveraging Red Hat's knowledge and experience in building, deploying, and managing applications across the hybrid cloud.

Red Hat OpenShift Lightspeed empowers users with its diverse compatibility, offering flexible integration with a variety of model providers, whether it's prominent services like OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, and WatsonX or private AI options hosted on Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI and Red Hat OpenShift AI, the tool claims to provide enhanced control and customisation.

Modern virtualisation

With a unified platform for managing diverse environments, Red Hat OpenShift Lightspeed claims to deliver intelligent assistance specifically tailored for Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation, simplifying the migration from legacy virtualisation vendors. It also aims to ease modernisation efforts by providing readily accessible answers to virtualisation-specific questions.

Thomas Munoz, core SRE manager, Shopping, Amadeus, said, "As a leading provider of advanced technology solutions within the global travel industry, our company prioritises using innovative technologies to better serve our customers. Red Hat OpenShift has already helped us streamline operations and reduce time to market for new services.
