Data resilience company Veeam predicts the rise of AI-focused leadership roles in 2025. In a media briefing, “Tech Predictions 2025 & Vision and Strategy Update”, Anthony Spiteri, regional CTO APJ at Veeam, shared that new roles, such as Chief AI Officers (CAIOs), will rise along with data-driven organisations in 2025.
Chief AI officers
Spiteri highlighted the crucial role of CAIOs in overseeing the ethical, responsible, and effective use of AI across organisations. He emphasized that these leaders will bridge the gap between technical teams and key stakeholders, ensuring AI is used to align with the company's values and goals.
He said CAIOs will be responsible for strategically using AI technologies. This will also pave the way for increasingly integrating data resilience and strategic AI initiatives into boardroom discussions.
Spiteri also stressed the collaborative nature of the role, noting that CAIOs will work closely with chief data and data privacy officers. Together, they will ensure data integrity, recoverability, and alignment with AI strategies.

Veeam predictions
In addition to the rise of AI-focused leadership roles in 2025, Veeam predicts the growth of AI middleware this year.
“In 2025, we will see more businesses engaging AI middleware companies to help faster adoption of secure, responsible and efficient AI solutions,” Spiteri said.
Moreover, Spiteri sees enhanced cyber threats and cloud repatriation on the horizon.
“2025 will be a year of realisation for many organisations as many are still underprepared to recover efficiently from cyber incidents. However, with the growing risk of AI-powered cyber threats and the push for stricter cyber regulations…more businesses will take a proactive approach towards resiliency,” he concluded.
